Steve Stone didn’t want to put the cart before the horse, but he was pretty confident that he would return to the Chicago White Sox broadcast booth for 2025 and potentially beyond.
While mulling over his future in broadcasting, Stone made two things clear: he wanted to return to the White Sox alongside John Schriffen and retire with the organization.
With that plan seemingly already in motion, Stone and his broadcast partner all but confirmed the news on Thursday’s broadcast of the White Sox-Los Angeles Angels game.
Steve Stone has signed a multi-year contract extension to remain the Chicago White Sox TV analyst, as was just announced on the NBC Sports Chicago broadcast (the final White Sox home broadcast ever on the network, which won’t exist after Monday). ⚾️📺🎙️ #MLB https://t.co/4mLCTFQWEd pic.twitter.com/NnmZbwcqg6

“Speaking of all the emotions of the day, this one brings a lot of joy to a lot of White Sox fans,” Schriffen said. “I’m excited to announce that my incredible partner Steve Stone will be back on this broadcast, not just next year, but for multiple years to come, signing a new agreement with the White Sox to end his role as an analyst for whenever you want it to end, with the Chicago White Sox.”
“I mean, that was the plan,” says Stone, “because since I’ve been here since 2008, it has felt like a family to me. And so, I wanted to make sure that when my career is over, it ends as a member of the Chicago White Sox family. So we did sign a long-term deal; I will be here for quite some time, and John and I will be together for as long as we both want to, I believe.”
The White Sox ranked dead last in Awful Announcing’s local broadcaster rankings for 2024, but that had more to do with Schriffen and less to do with Stone.
