Chelsea Janes Credit: SNY

Baseball writer Chelsea Janes was among the many journalists laid off by the Washington Post last week, but she didn’t have to wait long to find a new gig.

SNY announced Thursday that it had hired Janes as its new MLB insider.

Janes fills the spot left by Andy Martino, who took a role as team reporter and host with the New York Mets earlier this month.

Janes was the national baseball writer for The Washington Post after having previously been the beat writer for the Washington Nationals from 2014 to 2018. Before working at The Post, she interned at USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle and served as an associate reporter covering the San Diego Padres for MLB.com. She was also among the Post contributors named by Nationals president Paul Toboni during his press conference earlier this week.

One of the few saving graces from the Post’s mass layoffs is that many of the talented people who suddenly found themselves without jobs are likely to get snapped up in a similar fashion.

Meanwhile, the hole left behind by the demise of the WaPo sports desk is already being filled by The Baltimore Banner, which is expanding its sports desk to cover Washington, D.C.-area teams.
