If you’ve never been to England, it can be easy to make assumptions about what life is like based solely on the TV shows and films you’ve seen.
And while that often doesn’t tell the real story of how people are in the United Kingdom, sometimes your pop culture references aren’t that far off either.
The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets are in England for The London Series this week. One of the best parts of the experience is hearing about the Major League Baseball players’ experiences. Mets slugger Pete Alonso, for instance, was very intrigued about his dining options and whether or not a Sunday roast could be acquired on non-Sundays.
Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos stopped by MLB Network to talk about his experiences in London. The two-time All-Star shared that he had made a startling discovery about private school uniforms.

“We walked around for like five hours or so, just saw like all the local markets they have. I like to see how normal people live on the daily. That stuff is fun for me – to be able to go through their markets and the way they get food and stuff. I got to see kids come out all dressed in their Hogwarts uniforms,” Castellanos said. “Hey, private school kids wear jackets and ties here. Jackets and ties. Now, I pay $30,000 a year for a private school and all we get is an untucked collared shirt and khaki pants. Come on, man.”
In keeping with the theme, Crossing Broad thinks Castellanos is a Gryffindor. We might agree, except for when a broadcaster is sharing somber news during his at-bat. That’s when he goes full Slytherin.
