The New York Yankees have been by far the hottest team in baseball as of late, riding a seven-game winning streak into their matchup on Thursday night against the Minnesota Twins. But the team’s recent success may all be undone by an announcer jinx by longtime Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay.

Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman got off to a great start to the game as he has done much of the season, retiring the first two Twins batters he faced.

Former All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa then stepped to the plate in the midst of what had been a pretty rough start to the series against New York. In the first two games of the series, Correa had been hitless by the Yankees pitching staff.

After Correa took a first-pitch ball from Stroman, Kay pointed out Correa’s struggles in the series on the YES Network broadcast.

“(Carlos) Correa so far in this series, 0-for-7 with four strikeouts,” said Kay.

Around ten seconds after Kay made that statement on the very next pitch, Correa proceeded to take Stroman deep to right field to give the Twins a 1-0 lead on a solo home run.

A player like Correa with a long resume of success can obviously only be held down so much in a three-game series.

But you have to wonder whether this would have been the result of this at-bat had Kay not mentioned Correa’s struggles.
