When Luis Arráez’s MLB career is over, a sports media career may be awaiting him.
Shortly before the Miami Marlins began their three-game series with the Oakland Athletics, it was reported that Arráez had been traded from Miami to the San Diego Padres. But before that trade was reported, Arráez sat down for an interview — kind of.
“Before the game, reports that Luis Arráez was traded,” Kelly Saco of Bally Sports Florida said. “Nothing is official yet. But before the game, our cameras caught this.”
A pregame video of Arráez was then shown on the screen. He quickly put his thumb up and nodded. “Hey guys, thanks for watching Bally Sports. Thanks for the help. Thanks for the support. I’m Luis Arráez, I play for the Miami Marlins. Thanks so much.”
After a brief pause, as if listening to a question, Arráez again began to talk. “Uh, yeah. I’m just waiting here for my teammates. Then I just need to go inside, then prepare my mind and be ready for the game.” After another pause, Arráez continued. “Oh, what a question. Yes. I just enjoy my life. Baseball is hard. So I just gotta enjoy my life, enjoy my game and support my teammates, you know?”
Shortly thereafter, Arráez again began to talk. “Yeah. Oh. We got a really good team. We just need to keep continuing to play hard then play together, you know? So baseball is fun. We’ve got to just enjoy it. Following another pause, Arráez concluded things. “Oh, yes. Thanks, thanks, thanks so much. I look good on TV, yes?” He then made the “peace out” hand gesture, laughed, sat up, put the microphone on the chair and walked away.”
Hours before being traded from the Marlins to Padres, Luis Arráez conducted an interview…

The interview sounded completely normal. Sure, none of the questions Arráez was answering were audible to the viewer, but that could have easily been attributed to technical issues. Only, as Saco said, that wasn’t the case.
“Just a reminder for everybody at home, no one was interviewing him,” Saco said. “Luis Arráez just saw the mic sitting there. He decided to sit down and start having a conversation with himself. And guys, I know I speak for all of us when I say just — his personality — infectious.”
We can say this. One of Arráez’s final actions as a member of the Marlins was also one of his most funny and entertaining as a member of the team.
