A very loud heckler could be heard during Friday night’s game between the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. It only took until the top of the second inning before Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez couldn’t take it any longer, and he delivered a hilarious line in response.
With two outs in the top of the second inning, Ronny Mauricio was at the plate for the Mets and fouled off a pitch.
After the foul ball, the heckler yelled, “THAT WAS A WEAK SWING!”
Mets play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen laughed as he tried to talk about Mauricio on the PIX broadcast, and then Hernandez jumped in with this line:
“Give that guy a hot dog so he can chew on something and shut up.”
That drew more laughter from Cohen, who added, “I think he can hear you.”

You can always count on Hernandez and the Mets TV booth to tell it like it is and provide laughs.
That’s a big reason why Awful Announcing readers voted the Mets crew as the No. 1 booth in our 2024 MLB local broadcaster rankings.
