Ever want to take a psychedelic trip with Keith Hernandez? SNY gave New York Mets fans the chance to experience one briefly.
No, this wasn’t some sort of crazy fan experience contest. It was just a cool camera shot that had Hernandez feeling some kind of way during the second inning of the Mets’ 7-1 loss against the Braves, after SNY zoomed in on the setting sun in Atlanta.

“Oh, what a nice shot,” Hernandez said until he seemingly stared at the pulsing orb for a little too long. “Jeez, my goodness. Psychedelic. I feel like I’m having a bad trip.”
“You going somewhere?” Cohen asked, jokingly playing the comment off as if Hernandez was talking about traveling. “Sometimes I just don’t know what to make of you.”
“You and I grew up in that generation,” the beloved Mets analyst added through a chuckle.
“What, with Dr. Timothy Leary?” Cohen quickly interjected, referencing the controversial American psychologist who was a strong advocate of LSD. “Tune in, turn on, drop out.”
“Change the subject,” Hernandez pleaded before chiming in with one last nugget. “Timothy Leary’s dead.”
This must have been a first for Keith Hernandez on SNY. Not him talking about his past drug use, or use of psychedelics, apologies to Aaron Rodgers for the possible misrepresentation. It was Hernandez begging for a subject change that must have been a first on a Mets broadcast.
Usually, it’s Cohen who is tasked with pivoting the conversation back to baseball. Although after Cohen may or may not have referenced Hernandez’s previously admitted drug use with a quip earlier in the week, the Mets Hall-of-Famer might have been more eager to change the topic Thursday night.
