After sharing play-by-play duties for the New York Yankees last year, Justin Shackil announced he won’t be part of the team’s radio broadcast this season.

Shackil joined the Yankees radio broadcast on WFAN in 2023, when he was named their pre and postgame host, as well as a fill-in play-by-play voice. Last season, however, Shackil was thrust into a larger play-by-play role after John Sterling announced his retirement in April. Shackil and Emmanuel Berbari filled most of the void left by Sterling, with Brendan Burke, Ricky Ricardo, Ryan Ruocco and even Craig Carton joining the rotation to work Yankees games on WFAN.

The decision to not return, however, appears to be Shackil’s, who broke the news Thursday evening in a social media post, sharing that he wants to focus on his TV work moving forward.

“As the 2025 Yankees season approaches, I want to share that I will no longer host postgame coverage on Yankees radio broadcasts,” Shackil wrote. “I loved being able to talk to our audience almost every day, but it is a position that rightfully requires a constant presence, and at this point, is something I could not provide. Moving forward, I am going to focus more on my TV work in baseball and boxing. You’ll still see me on YES Network in a variety of roles during the season.”

In addition to his work at WFAN, Shackil has contributed as a backup studio host and gameday reporter for the Yankees on YES.

“Thank you to the Yankees and WFAN for giving me one of the best seats in the house the last few seasons,” Shackil added. “I am proud of the work we did, but I am also looking forward to what lies ahead.”

While Shackil became one of the Yankees primary radio voices last season, he didn’t get an opportunity to call a game during their run to the World Series, with Sterling briefly putting his retirement on pause for the playoffs. Former WFAN host and longtime Seattle Mariners broadcaster, Dave Sims has since been named Sterling’s permanent successor in the Yankees radio booth.
