During the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, the NBC broadcast booth talked about nachos. And NBC analyst Joey Votto said that he’s never had nachos in his “entire life,” which play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti couldn’t believe.
The NBC cameras captured fans in the stands eating nachos, leading to the discussion. Color commentator Anthony Rizzo told stories of taking bites of fans’ nachos at Wrigley Field, including during his games as a first baseman with the Chicago Cubs.
“Joey, did you do that too? Is this a first baseman thing?” Benetti asked Votto, who was working as the NBC “Inside the Pitch” analyst next to a Wrigley Field dugout.
“I’ve never had a nacho in my entire life, guys,” Votto explained.
A stunned Benetti reacted with, “What?!”
“I know. I’m a nacho virgin,” Votto said.
“Joey, can we break that virginity today? Please?” Rizzo asked.
“Yeah, we’ll do it in the concession area. For sure,” Votto responded.

Benetti also asked Votto, who’s Canadian, “You’ve had poutine, though, right?”
“Never,” Votto responded.
“What?! What do you eat?!” Benetti asked.
Votto explained that poutine is popular in Quebec; he’s from Ontario.
“Joey, you’ve had Tim Hortons, eh?” Rizzo asked.
“I’ve had so much Tim Hortons,” Votto confirmed.
“But you’ve never had a nacho in your entire life?” Benetti asked.
“Jason. Let it go. Let it go,” Votto responded.
Votto, a Reds legend, has been known to be a jokester. And he posted to X, “Of course I’ve had nachos.”
