Giants’ Sean Hjelle has hilarious response to question on ‘Bootylicious’ entrance music: ‘Destiny’s Child made that song for me.’

Questions about athletes’ entrance music can often draw some interesting reactions. The latest example of that comes from San Francisco Giants’ relief pitcher Sean Hjelle, who enters to Destiny’s Child’s 2001 hit “Bootylicious.”

Hjelle’s choice there has drawn some X/Twitter talk. And that led to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Laura Britt asking Hjelle about it in an on-air interview after Friday’s game (where he was credited with the victory in the Giants’ 10-5 comeback win against the Colorado Rockies). And Hjelle had an amazing answer there:

“Sean, the most important baseball question I have for you tonight. I’ve heard your warmup song, very serious music that you have going. “Bootylicious,” as everybody knows, “I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly.” Talk about your song, Sean!”

“I think, whether they knew it or not, I think Destiny’s Child made that song for me to come out to into the game. So I’m really, really appreciative to those wonderful ladies for doing that for me. And all I can do is just groove to the song and kind of honor them in that way. I grew up on it, so I’ve got to honor some of the greats.”
