Gary Cohen, Ozzy Osbourne, Keith Hernandez Edit by Liam McGuire

Ozzy Osbourne passed away Tuesday at the age of 76. His legendary career spanned several genres, beginning as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, continuing with a highly successful solo career, and culminating in a third act revival as one of the original reality TV stars.

So iconic is Osbourne in popular culture that he came up during an SNY broadcast of a New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Angels game.

In the top of the third of Tuesday’s game, SNY announcers Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez took a moment to remember Osbourne and his impact on the culture.

“Between innings, they played a little Ozzy Osbourne,” said Cohen during a break in the action. “Ozzy passed away today at the age of 76. The heavy metal progenitor for every heavy metal band.”

“That’s right,” added Keith Hernandez. “I mean, he had so many hit songs that are played everywhere. I didn’t follow Black Sabbath, but you certainly knew the band. And when I think of today, he had that hit song in the ’90s, ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home.'”

They weren’t the only ones to offer Mets-related remembrances of Osbourne as former Atlanta Braves slugger Chipper Jones had his own memories of the late rock legend related to the NYC-based baseball club.

Jones, who used Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” as his walk-up song, remembered an interaction with Mets catcher Mike Piazza during one of their games.

“Facing the Mets at home….I walk to the plate and say, ‘Hey Mike [Piazza], how’s it going?’ He says, ‘I’m doing fine Larry, but I hate this f–king song!’ I said ‘Well, get ready cuz ur gonna hear about 5 times today!’ Pretty funny.”
