Once his MLB playing career ended, a career in the media seemed to be in the cards for former Cubs and Red Sox (among others) catcher David Ross. Sure enough, that’s come to fruition. On Monday, ESPN announced that Ross had joined its stable of studio analysts on a multi-year deal.

“I’m excited to dive right in and start talking baseball with my new colleagues at ESPN, said David Ross. “It truly is the worldwide leader in sports and I’m grateful for the opportunity to join this incredible team. We’re going to have a lot of fun this season.”

ESPN seemed to be a natural fit for Ross, given that he worked there in a part-time role during the MLB Postseason in both 2014 and 2015. He was understandably busy throughout the playoffs in 2013 and 2016.

Ross will also continue in his role as a special assistant with the Cubs. This isn’t a unique situation – MLB Network analyst Pedro Martinez still serves as a special assistant in the Red Sox organization.

It seems like Ross will be a perfect fit in Bristol. Will it end up working out that way? We’ll find out – sometimes, players who seem like they’ll be naturals (hello, Ray Lewis) just don’t work out the way anyone expected.
