Minnesota Twins play-by-play man Cory Provus knew that the team’s roster would look different after the July 31 trade deadline. That said, he didn’t think the changes would be quite so drastic.

The Twins traded 10 players, more than one-third of their active 26-man roster. Shortly after the deadline, Provus shared his surprise on X. He also made it known that when the Twins open up their three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night, the trade deadline activity will be a topic of conversation on the broadcast.

“Well, today was truly a transformative day in the history of Twins baseball,” Provus said. “We anticipated action, but never in my wildest imagination did I expect ten players traded off the 26 man roster. Plenty to discuss, digest and debate. We’ll get into it right away tomorrow night at 6CT.”

Certainly, nothing Provus said was out of turn. Dan Hayes of The Athletic quoted another player saying, “Now no one wants to stay if they are selling like this.”

Going back to Monday, Minnesota traded pitchers Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak to the Detroit Tigers, pitcher Jhoan Duran and outfielder Harrison Bader to the Philadelphia Phillies (in separate trades), pitcher Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France to the Toronto Blue Jays, pitcher Griffin Jax to the Tampa Bay Rays, shortstop Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros, pitcher Brock Stewart to the Los Angeles Dodgers, outfielder Willi Castro to the Chicago Cubs and pitcher Danny Coulombe to the Texas Rangers.

So, Provus and his fellow Minnesota announcers will have to learn a lot of new names and faces for the season’s final two months.
