If you tuned into ESPN to hear Boog Sciambi and Doug Glanville call Game 1 of the New York Mets-Milwaukee Brewers Wild Card series, you probably got an unexpected dose of Chris Christie as well.
Christie, who joined the Mets board of directors in 2021, was in Milwaukee for their MLB playoff opener Tuesday afternoon, sitting next to franchise owner Steve Cohen in the front row. Their seats were close to the action, and apparently close to a microphone as well because viewers were able to hear Christie’s cheering on the ESPN broadcast.

That’s Christie in the above video with a “Good shot! Atta boy!” paired with an emphatic clap after Mets pitcher Luis Severino tossed a second inning strike to Jackson Chourio. Immediately after the mics picked up Christie’s cheering, the camera showed the former New Jersey governor clapping loudly next to a more stoic Steve Cohen. Even Stephen A. Smith took notice of Christie on the broadcast, mentioning his presence Wednesday morning on First Take.

“We’re gonna have to reach out to our buddy, former Governor Chris Christie who was sitting right behind home plate last night, by the way,” he said.
Smith is buddies enough with Christie to share a fundraising link for the former governor’s brief presidential campaign last year. Donald Trump ultimately won the GOP nominee and watched running mate JD Vance in the vice presidential debate with Democrat Tim Walz on Tuesday night, while Christie can now just focus on the Mets.
Christie was heard several times throughout the broadcast, and he was probably helped by the game being in Milwaukee. With the Brewers crowd quieting every time the Mets did something good, it paved way for Christie to have his cheering heard on the broadcast.
