Bob Costas on Brockmire.

The April 3 premiere of the third season of IFC’s Brockmire, the dark and hilarious show about disgraced former MLB broadcaster Jim Brockmire (Hank Azaria) trying to work his way back to the majors, is almost upon us. A trailer for the new season is out, and amongst many other moments, it features part of Brockmire’s discussion with Bob Costas (around the 0:46 mark) where he claims he was responsible for Costas’ Sochi eye infection:

This continues the Brockmire tradition of media cameos, and it’s pretty funny to work Costas in that way. And he’s just one of many notable guest stars this season, as IFC’s release indicates:

IFC’’s Brockmire is back up to bat with Season 3. This season’s all-star line-up includes series star, Hank Azaria, returning cast members Amanda Peet and Tyrel Jackson Williams, new cast member, Tawny Newsome, and guest stars Richard Kind, Bob Costas, Linda Lavin, Martha Plimpton, J.K. Simmons, Christine Woods, George Brett and Becky Ann Baker. The series is produced by Funny Or Die.

…Season 3 takes place three months after his stint in rehab, with Brockmire (Azaria), a famed major league baseball announcer who suffered a notorious public breakdown after stumbling upon his wife’s infidelity, doing play-by-play in the radio booth for the major leagues in central Florida during spring training while maintaining his brazen and narcissistic tendencies, despite actually being on the wagon. When an opportunity arises for Jim and his new co-host Gabby (Newsome) to take over as lead broadcasters in Oakland, he must fight to change his ever-present amorality.

We’ve seen some of this season already via screeners, and it lives up to the heights of the first two so far. Stay tuned for more Brockmire coverage here as we get closer to April 3.
