Ultimately Brockmire and Jules end up together. Was there ever any thought into not having them get together?
No—there was never even a discussion of a different serious relationship for him. We set them up in Season 1 as being perfect for each other but having horrible timing—and we saw it happen over and over again that the sole reason for them not being together was Brockmire was unable to provide Jules what she needed because he still had too much work to do on himself. So by Season 4 we wanted him to learn how to properly love through his relationship with his daughter, and apply that to finally being the man that could have a functional relationship with the love of his life. They’re like Carrie and Big, but a million times more fun.
