On Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their lead in the World Series to 3-0 after their 4-2 win over the New York Yankees. And as far as USA Today MLB columnist Bob Nightengale sees it, the series is as good as done for the Bronx Bombers.
Lack of offense was again the name of the game for the Yankees, getting shutout through eight innings. Alex Verdugo was able to cut into the lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. But it was simply too little too late.
Now, the Yankees need to do what no other team in MLB history has done before, win four straight games in the World Series to complete a 4-3 series comeback.
With that in mind, Nightengale took to social media to tell the Dodgers to “put the champagne on ice, and to “schedule that World Series parade”. Because in his eyes, this series is over.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers can put the champagne on ice, and schedule that World Series parade,” wrote Nightengale after the Dodgers win. “They knock off the Yankees again, 4-2, to take 3-0 lead in the World Series. It’s over.”

In all likelihood, Nightengale will be correct in his assessment of this series and the Dodgers will win their eighth World Series ring. But if the Yankees do have any glimmer of hope, it may come from Nightengale’s propensity to prematurely predict results.
Nightengale has developed a lengthy reputation for going out on a limb, famously joking that the 2006 Detroit Tigers were so talented that they would win the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals “in three games”, only for the Cardinals to win the series.
That was of course before the 2006 series began. So there is a big difference in the two predictions from Nightengale.
But as you may expect, Nightengale has received quite a few replies from Dodgers and Yankees fans alike who either love or hate the prediction for obvious reasons.

No, they actually have to win one more game.

This is the most hopeful I’ve felt since that grand slam

On the extremely unlikely chance that Nightengale curses the Dodgers, he will truly have an impossible time living this down…
