Alex Rodriguez: Mets ‘had the Dodgers on the ropes’ last NLCS

Alex Rodriguez is the only person who watched the NLCS last season and believed the New York Mets had the Los Angeles Dodgers right where they wanted them.

During Tuesday’s MLB All-Star festivities, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor joined Kevin Burkhardt, A-Rod, David Ortiz and Derek Jeter on the Fox pre-game show. And when it was Rodriguez’s turn to ask a question, he began with praise for Lindor’s 2024 postseason that went above and beyond.

“Hey, Franciscso, first of all, congrats on another All-Star appearance,” Rodriguez said. “You guys had the Dodgers on the ropes last fall, and you were terrific personally. What has to happen in the second half of the season to bring a championship back to Queens, since 1986.”

Where A-Rod was right? Lindor was very good for the Mets during the 2024 MLB playoffs, including the NLCS. The Mets shortstop had a monster grand slam in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Phillies amid hitting  .275 with an OBP near .400 throughout the entire postseason, and enjoyed similar numbers in the NLCS.

Where A-Rod was wrong? The Mets never had the Dodgers on the ropes last fall. They were blown out 9-0 in Game 1 to set the tone of the series. And they trailed 3-1 in the series before taking Game 5 in New York only to lose Game 6 in Los Angeles without much of a fight. To further prove the Dodgers were never on the ropes, they outscored the Mets 46-26 in the series. That’s dominance.

Have a day, Alex! Fresh off claiming Rob Manfred deserves to be in Cooperstown, Rodriguez went and attempted to say the Mets “had the Dodgers on the ropes” despite being outscored 46-26!

What was A-Rod watching? Fox had the 2024 NLCS, so Rodriguez saw the games live. Maybe he misremembered, or maybe he was just trying to be nice. But claiming the Mets had the Dodgers on the ropes in the NLCS was a gross misrepresentation of how that series played out.
