The Please-Don’t-Call-Us-Oakland Athletics finally broke ground in Las Vegas ahead of their proposed move to the city at some point in the future. But given the lack of success when it comes to the history of As owner John Fisher, not many people are buying it.
Even local weathermen.
The Athletics are currently playing at a minor league stadium in Sacramento after leaving Oakland last year in painful circumstances. And broadcasters around the major leagues have consistently referred to them by their former Oakland home, whether it’s been accidental or sending a message on behalf of baseball fans towards one of the most toxic owners in sports.
Well, local KTXL weatherman Dennis Shanahan took his opportunity to send a message to John Fisher as well this week.
After a story ran on the local Sacramento Fox affiliate about the Athletics groundbreaking that was attended by Fisher and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, Shanahan let loose on what he was feeling inside. And it was nothing good.

“I literally had a physical reaction to that story. Like actual nausea that I could feel building up. There’s one thing that A’s owner John Fisher does consistently. And that’s fail to deliver. So we’ll see,” Shanahan said.
Fisher’s continual failures in Oakland has led many to be rightfully pessimistic that the Athletics will actually ever play in Las Vegas, even with the groundbreaking ceremony marking a significant milestone in their journey to the desert. But those who were Oakland As fans aren’t going to let him or Major League Baseball forget about how they were done wrong under his ownership and years of neglect in the Bay Area.
