On Wednesday, Boston’s WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub) had Carolina Hurricanes beat writer Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer on “Toucher & Rich” to talk about the Bruins-Hurricanes Eastern Conference Final. Just over four minutes into the interview, host Fred Toucher hung up on Alexander, and said that he “just can’t listen to a guy with a southern accent talk about hockey.”
Two days later, Raleigh radio host Adam Gold of 99.9 The Fan took his turn as the Carolina representative on Toucher & Rich, and also wrote an article — “Hockey’s not-so-hidden disrespect” — on the topic.
And on Sunday, Toucher got mad online.
Toucher tweeted that he’s “had enough of you hicks” in response to a Hurricanes-related tweet from ABC-11 (Raleigh) news anchor Steve Daniels, and said Raleigh “is not the south you are a mound of shit that I have to fly through to get to Knoxville.”

I have had enough of you hicks. Your stupid beat writer cried because I hung up on him. Then one of your radio guys comes on my show kisses my ass then shits on me on his website. You are not the south you are a mound of shit that I have to fly through to get to Knoxville
Gold responded with a tweet saying he “certainly never kissed [Toucher’s] ass.”

The series is only through two games (Boston won 6-2 on Sunday to take a 2-0 series lead), so Toucher probably isn’t done making over-the-top comments about North Carolina, hockey, and southern accents.
