  • The United States’ success in the 2017 World Baseball Classic provided success for its broadcaster MLB Network. With an average of 181,000 viewers for the entire week of Mar. 20-26, it marks the best weekly numbers in MLB Network’s history. The WBC had also generated the network’s second best week ever with a 180,000-viewer average for Mar. 6-12
  • There were two PGA Tour tournaments and one LPGA Tour tournament on Golf Channel from Mar. 22-26.
    • Five days of WGC-Dell Match Play live coverage on the cable network averaged 493,000 viewers and 84,000 adults 18-49, down about one-quarter in each figure from the 2016 Match Play (651,000 viewers/114,000 adults 18-49 on Mar. 23-27, 2016).
    • Also with decreases from last year, the four rounds of the LPGA’s Kia Classic were down 29 percent in total viewers (143,000 vs. 201,000) and down 44 percent among adults 18-49 (16,000 vs. 28,000).
    • The channel did experience some positive ratings news for the week: Despite weather delays, live coverage of the four rounds of the Puerto Rico Open averaged 142,000 viewers and 31,000 adults; +3 percent and +11 percent, respectively, from the 2016 Puerto Rico Open.
  • Directly opposite NCAA March Madness on CBS and TBS, three NBA Regular Season prime time games on NBA TV from Mar. 23-25 (Raptors/Heat on Mar. 23, Hawks/Bucks on Mar. 24 and Wizards/Cavaliers on Mar. 25) averaged 220,000 viewers and 97,000 adults 18-49, +24 percent and +21 percent, respectively, from the trio of NBA TV games (177,000 viewers/80,000 adults 18-49 for the combo of Pelicans/Pacers, Hornets/Pistons and Spurs/Thunder) that also faced NCAA tourney action from Mar. 24-26, 2016.
