If you believe in the power of an announcer jinx, MLB Network host Greg Amsinger, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr. combined to supply an all-timer on Tuesday night.
Yamamoto came into the game riding a hot streak, having not allowed a run in 15 innings. The Marlins, meanwhile have struggled for much of the season. So, while it was obvious that he wasn’t being 100% serious, Amsinger predicted that it might be a memorable game for Yamamoto and anyone watching.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but we are already on no-hitter alert,” Amsinger said. “Yoshinobu Yamamoto, before he throws a single pitch tonight against the Marlins. We have a no-hitter alert. Enjoy what could be a no-hitter from Yamamoto right here on MLB Network.”
As Amsinger was speaking, co-host Chris Young made what ended up being a prophetic statement. “Oh, you know Jazz is swinging first pitch.” Did he ever.
Chisholm swung at Yamamoto’s first pitch. In the process, he took Yamamoto off of no-hitter watch. For good measure, he also brought the pitcher’s scoreless innings streak to an end.

Miami’s Jazz Chisholm takes the first pitch deep.

And in case anyone is thinking that maybe Amsinger got his wires crossed and put the no-hitter watch on the same team, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Miami’s Edward Cabrera walked Shohei Ohtani, hit Freddie Freeman, walked Will Smith, then gave up a grand slam to Max Muncy.
Of course, we have to say that Amsinger’s comments weren’t completely serious. But much like there’s no sarcasm font on social media, the announcer jinx gods take everything literally.
