The much-awaited Celtics City docuseries now has a trailer.
Co-executive producer Bill Simmons shared the trailer for the series on X Wednesday.
“It’s about 8 decades of the Celtics, the NBA, Boston and America,” Simmons noted.
Coming March 3 on Max — our new @HBO docuseries, ‘Celtics City.’ It’s about 8 decades of the Celtics, the NBA, Boston and America. I’m an EP. Find it 3/3 on @StreamOnMax. (I swear we didn’t pick that date cuz of Larry.) Here’s the trailer. pic.twitter.com/POKxge6SYZ

The series premieres on Max on March 3.
First announced in March 2024, the series is an ambitious project, to be sure. Simmons has admitted as much.
“I think we felt a lot of pressure,” Simmons told The Boston Globe last year. “How do you do this in an honest way, and not have it turn into an infomercial?”
The trailer hit on all the expected points, touching on the team’s 18 NBA titles, including the 2024 NBA championship; franchise legends from Larry Bird to Bill Russell; along with the darker moments (Len Bias, Reggie Lewis).
There are some great random lines, too; Los Angeles Lakers great James Worthy weighed in on the Celtics’ reputation and their iconic leprechaun: “I’d look at that little leprechaun, and sometimes I just wanted to spit in his face.”
“There have been documentaries about a lot of this stuff that we’re covering. So we wanted to keep it fresh and we wanted it to really feel pretty special and unique,” Simmons told The Globe last year.
It’s hard to determine the overall quality of a series from a trailer running about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. But the trailer looks good, and the series is a must-see for not just Celtics fans, but NBA fans as well.
