Back in May, HBO announced that they had acquired the rights to a Diego Maradona documentary, directed by Asif Kapadia. On Friday, they released a trailer for the doc and as expected, it looks phenomenal.

Yeah, that’ll do. It seems like this will be a comprehensive look at Maradona’s life and career, on and off the pitch, and none of the controversial moments that Maradona has been involved in will be whitewashed.

Also of note: the premiere date of the film has been pushed back by a week. Back in May when HBO announced the acquisition, they noted a release date of September 24th. In this trailer, the premiere date is listed as October 1st.

The footage we’ve seen in the trailer really gives me hope that this is going to live up to the high expectations that we have going in. Given what Kapadia was able to create with Senna, it’s not a stretch to think this will exceed our expectations.
