While Scottie Scheffler will be on the American Ryder Cup team in September, he doesn’t want to talk about the event yet.
Ryder Cup questions came up while Scheffler was talking to the media at the BMW Championship. After one such question, he made it clear that any more questions about the Ryder Cup would mark the end of the press conference.
“I mean, I love answering all these questions about the Ryder Cup, guys,” he said. “But this is ridiculous. We’re at the BMW Championship. The Ryder Cup is over a month away. If you wanna talk about this week, let’s talk about this week. If not, I got practice to do. I’m getting ready for a golf tournament.”

There is a lot of potential intrigue about this year’s Ryder Cup. Will captain Bradley use a captain’s pick on himself? While Bradley has already said that Bryson DeChambeau will be on the United States team, will other LIV golfers be considered? Given that Scheffler has already secured one of the 12 spots on the United States team (as have J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele), it’s natural to ask him for his feelings on some of those issues.
That said, we can also see where Scheffler is coming from. The Ryder Cup will be played from Sept. 26-28, which is six weeks away. And as Scheffler noted, he’s playing in a golf tournament, and a rather big one, at that. The BMW Championship is the second leg in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs. The third and final leg, the Tour Championship, is next week.
So, as intriguing as the Ryder Cup always is and as natural as some of these questions may be, we can’t blame Scheffler for not wanting to look that far ahead.
