Tony Romo’s golf skills are no secret. The NFL on CBS analyst has played four PGA Tour events, won celebrity tournaments, and is a scratch golfer.
But the best indicator that Romo is really, really good is that he’s played hundreds of rounds with Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world. Not only that, but he’s won some wagers with the PGA Tour star.
Then again, he’s lost some wagers to Scheffler. And the way Scheffler pays off Romo is hilarious. The golf star shared his unusual payment method this week with the Subpar podcast.
“There’s been a couple times when he’s played where he’s written checks to guys,” Scheffler said. “I don’t ever go to the bank, so I keep it in my little pouch. Whenever I go to pay him back … let’s say he owes me a thousand bucks so he writes me a check for a thousand bucks. Then the next week I lose $600, I give him the check and am like, ‘alright you owe me $400.’
“He gets so mad … ‘this is not real money, this isn’t fair.’ Tony, it has your name on the check, this is what you gave me, I’m giving it back to you now. ‘This isn’t real money.’ This is what you did.”

While Romo might quibble with that payment method, Scheffler is a fan of the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s golf game.
“He’s a really, really good golfer,” Scheffler said. “If his body would cooperate for him I think he’d be a lot better. But it’s tough for him, getting beat up for that many years in the NFL.”
