Rory McIlroy, like all of us, is getting older. For a lot of people, getting older means getting grayer. During a post-round interview with Amanda Balionis on Saturday, McIlroy got a chance to show off — and joke about — his hair.
Balionis got the ball rolling in that direction.
“You seem a little lighter and it might be because of the haircut,” Balionis said. “Could you just take the hat for us — off? What happened there, Rory?”
McIlroy, who has spent much of the year not talking to the media, obliged, then answered the question.

“I’m getting a little gray as everyone probably knows,” McIlroy replied. “And I stupidly thought that by going shorter, it would take the grays out. And if anything, I think it makes me look more gray.”
Fortunately, McIlroy found some silver lining, and not the kind that has anything to do with his gray hair.
“But it’ll grow back,” he said. “That’s the good thing. It’ll be perfect length for the Ryder Cup in September.”
After firing a third-round 66 on Saturday, McIlroy heads into Sunday’s final round of the Genesis Scottish Open tied for the lead. So, as Balionis noted, McIlroy’s new haircut, showing off the gray hairs, could be something of a good luck charm.
