Dan Rapoport is joining Pro Shop Holdings' Skratch outlet. Screen grab: Fore Play Podcast

While Dave Portnoy might think Dan Rapaport is “boring,” Pro Shop Holdings clearly disagrees.

According to the Sports Business Journal, the golf media company co-founded by Full Swing executive producer Chad Mumm and former Puck News co-founder Joe Purzycki has hired Rapaport as the editor-at-large for its Skratch platform. Taking to X, Rapaport confirmed the news, expounding on what his new role will entail.

“It’s a very fancy title…basically I’ll be doing a lot of what I’ve been doing as far as daily coverage of the professional game,” he wrote. “I’ll also continue to make YouTube videos, including the series where I caddie for a tour pro for 9 holes while longform interviewing them. But this move also presents new opportunities and levels of access that will enhance my coverage significantly. I feel like I’m going back to my journalism roots a bit, only with way more tools in my toolkit.”

Rapaport’s move to Pro Shop comes just weeks after he announced his departure from Barstool Sports, where he had co-hosted the popular Fore Play podcast. The announcement resulted in a swipe from Portnoy, who made it clear he didn’t make a strong effort to retain the golf media personality when his contract was up.

“I don’t mean this disrespectfully, okay? I don’t like Dan Rapaport, but I don’t not like Dan Rapaport,” Portnoy said on The Unnamed Show. “I have apathy towards Dan Rapaport. I wish him well. I have absolutely no ill will to him. I would agree that Dan Rapaport is an unusual fit for us in the sense he’s boring. And he came on through Fore Play. So Fore Play wanted him. He wanted to be there. We would resign him. And if he didn’t, he didn’t.”

While he may not have been the best fit at Barstool, Rapaport seems like a natural for Skratch, especially considering that he’s been a regular interview subject on Full Swing. In terms of younger members in the golf media, there aren’t many — or perhaps any — with bigger followings than Rapaport, who possesses plenty of range as both a reporter and personality.
