CBS hits four-year viewership high for Travelers Championship

PGA Tour viewership continues to surge this season, and Sunday’s final round of the Travelers Championship proved no different.

Keegan Bradley’s come-from-behind win over Tommy Fleetwood averaged 3.52 million viewers on CBS, the most-watched final round at the Travelers since 2021 when Harris English edged Kramer Hickok in a playoff. Excluding 2021, it was the most-watched final round for the tournament in 22 years. Sunday’s final round, finished up 35% versus last year, 2.61 million viewers for Scottie Scheffler’s playoff win over Tom Kim.

Saturday coverage on CBS also fared well. Per Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, the third round averaged 2.44 million viewers on CBS, the most-watched third round for the tournament since 2002.

Season-to-date, coverage of PGA Tour signature events on CBS is averaging 2.74 million viewers, up 19% versus last year. The Travelers Championship marks the final signature event on the PGA Tour schedule.

Overall, golf on CBS is averaging 3.33 million viewers this season, up 13% versus last year, marking the best average the network has had since 2018.

The PGA Tour has had a nice viewership story to tell so far this year. However, it is now entering a portion of its schedule without any signature events. Golf will still have its final major, The Open Championship, to help keep its momentum through August 7, when the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin. But that’s a long ways to go until the next marquee PGA Tour event.
