It was the most anticipated premiere since the debut of American Idol or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Of course we’re not talking about a new show or series. We’re talking about Mike Tomlin and his Minecraft build.
The world was stunned when Tomlin casually admitted in an interview with new NBC colleague Craig Melvin that he had started playing Minecraft when his kids were younger so they could connect together as a family. But even as his children grew up, he kept building the same city for over a decade.
And on Wednesday night, he unveiled it on his brand-new YouTube channel for the entire world to enjoy.
Everyone who watched the stream was in awe.
Mike Tomlin walked us through his love of architecture and the detail he has put into his fully functioning city in what is labeled as Episode 1 of the series, “Rooftops, Penthouses, and Urban Living.” He said he was always interested in architecture and was definitely conscious of the quality of life for his villagers.
“I was always really conscious of appropriate amenities,” Tomlin said. “You’ll find an appropriate number of public restrooms and stuff throughout my properties.”
Everyone who watched loved seeing this side of the NFL coaching legend and how passionate he was about his Minecraft city. The level of detail far surpassed anyone’s reasonable expectations. There were therapy rooms, a stadium, Jack and Jill bedrooms, rooftop hangouts, and lots and lots of aquariums.

I don’t think Mike Tomlin will be coaching again any time soon. He’s meant for the internet now. This is fun.

The debut video focused on some of Mike Tomlin’s high-rise work with dense living spaces and amenities. He even built a Trump Tower, which we were told happened in 2015, in a world before he was twice elected president. What a delightful time warp.
This was so much fun, and seeing Mike Tomlin in this world was such a pleasant surprise. Getting to see someone who’s been a legendary coach and is now excelling as a television analyst show off his Minecraft world was a delight. We can’t wait for Episode 2 and to see where Tomlin’s Minecraft story goes from here.
