Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has tormented the New York Yankees throughout the 2024 World Series. It seems like Yankees fans are taking whatever opportunity possible to heckle him, even during an incredibly somber moment.
Since 2008, Major League Baseball has partnered with Stand Up To Cancer, a charity dedicated to the research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the debilitating disease. Over the years, the MLB has brought awareness to the movement through a brief moment of silence in between innings of select games for those who have lost loved ones to cancer.
After the top of the sixth inning in Tuesday’s Game 4 matchup, there was one such moment of silence. Unfortunately, the moment was ruined for fans watching at home on Fox by an obnoxious Yankees who could be heard yelling “You suck, Freeman” at Freddie Freeman.

Regardless of who the unidentified fan was yelling at in that moment, it was obnoxious and disrespectful. But that is especially so when it comes to Freeman, who spoke with Fox’s Tom Verducci before the game about the death of his mother, Rosemary, who passed after a battle with melanoma when he was just ten years old.
After his walk-off grand slam in Game 1 for the @Dodgers, @FreddieFreeman5 said that moment was for his father.

Obviously, one incredibly disrespectful Yankees fan isn’t a representation of the entire fanbase. And who knows whether the fan in question knew about Freeman’s background. But that is largely besides the point.
And despite the result of Game 4, the night was an incredibly bad look for the Yankees fanbase. On top of this moment, Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts had two Yankees fans grab his hand and glove when attempting to make a catch near foul territory in the first inning of the game. Those fans were ejected from the game.
