When it comes to Fox replacing Greg Olsen with Tom Brady as its No. 1 NFL analyst, Travis Kelce has his fellow tight end’s back.
On the latest episode of New Heights, the Kansas City Chiefs star and his brother, Jason Kelce, discussed the news that Brady will make his broadcasting debut during the Week 1 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys. While doing so, the younger Kelce made it clear how he felt about Olsen’s demotion after spending the past two seasons as Fox’s top analyst.
“I love my guy Greg Olsen. They kind of did him dirty over there at Fox,” Kelce said. “But I mean, it’s Tom Brady, what can you do, right? Sometimes you just gotta do your thing. And Greg does a f**king tremendous job. He called our Super Bowl game and he was f**king fantastic doing that.”
“I try not to be biased against the commentators and the color guys, but I think Greg is phenomenal at it,” Jason added. “You can tell he makes it a point to really know what he’s talking about.”
Fox’s decision to replace Olsen as its top analyst has been a controversial one, thanks largely to the former Pro Bowl tight end being considered one of the best — if not the best — color commentators in football today. Conversely, if you’re going to employ Tom Brady, it only makes sense to have the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback be your top analyst, creating a unique dynamic in which Fox has demoted one of its rising stars to make room.
While Olsen reportedly had the ability to take his talents elsewhere if demoted from the top analyst position, such a move this offseason never came to fruition. As a result, he’ll reportedly remain at Fox as the network’s No. 2 analyst, calling games alongside Joe Davis during the 2024 NFL season.
