Tom Brady’s debut calling NFL games for Fox left everyone talking after Week 1, but it took until Thursday for the seven-time Super Bowl champion to weigh in with his self-evaluation.
In the latest installment of his Last Week YouTube series, postgame footage showed Brady critical but optimistic about his performance calling the Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns matchup.
“I’m tired from the buildup,” a yawning Brady said to the camera. “A lot of emotional energy and not quite knowing how things are gonna go. Certainly, a lot of fun. Definitely things to clean up. So, it’s all a learning process.”
Brady emphasized that he was “doing what he should be doing” and had optimism he would keep improving.
The vlog also features a conversation between Brady and his son, who he says he was thinking about throughout the entire broadcast.
And in case anyone was wondering, Brady explicitly states how excited he was to be calling a game in the inclement weather rather than playing QB in the game. That may not rule out the 47-year-old breaking his second retirement and coming back to the NFL for a team that plays indoors, but it seems Fox’s investment is secure for now.
In the days after Brady’s Fox debut, most prominent sports media hosts came to the same conclusions: He sounded over-prepared and inexperienced. Brady is basically co-signing those takes and admitting he needs time to get better.
While others, including his former head coach Bill Belichick, stand behind him amid his own debut in the media in 2024, Brady is being patient.
