As Stephen A. Smith continues to dabble in politics, his Fox News friend and host Sean Hannity might be starting to dabble in sports.
When you sit down to watch Super Bowl LIX on Fox Sunday evening, get ready to see 15 seconds of Hannity on your TV screen at some point. Earlier this week, Fox News shared the promo featuring Hannity in a Patrick Mahomes jersey while Bret Baier is representing Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. Baier will have an even larger role than a commercial Sunday afternoon, conducting a pretaped interview with Donald Trump that will air during Fox’s Super Bowl pregame coverage.
But Hannity and Baier in a Super Bowl commercial? That news seemingly stunned Smith when appearing on Tuesday night on Hannity’s Fox News show.
“You? In a Super Bowl ad?” Smith asked. “What the hell is this world coming to? What kind of Super Bowl ad are you gonna be in? You, with your non-sports-knowing self. Talk about staying in your lane; that’s you! You in a Super Bowl commercial? Who did this?! Did Trump pull strings to make this happen? I mean, what the hell is going on, Fox?”
Hannity argued Smith is just jealous that he’s in a Super Bowl ad before the First Take host. Smith, however, teased that he will be in a Super Bowl commercial soon enough.
“My time will come, don’t worry, my time will come,” Smith insisted. “I’ll be in a Super Bowl commercial; you can book that. That’s going to happen.”
That time might come two years from now when ESPN and ABC are slated to air the Super Bowl. Much like Fox is using its Super Bowl broadcast to promote their cable news hosts, ABC will likely do the same with some of its ESPN talent when they host the game in 2027.
And if Smith has any say in it, he’ll have much more involvement than just a commercial when ABC has the Super Bowl. As he works out the details of his next ESPN contract, Smith has hinted at wanting a role on their NFL coverage, specifically with Monday Night Football.
