Ratings News and Notes

  • The 2017 NHL Stanley Cup Final saw positive ratings gains for NBC, but overall, NHL Live post-game coverage on NBCSN after each Stanley Cup Final game drew below last year’s post-game coverage. Compared to 2016, only the post-Game 5 edition on June 8 grew (103,000 viewers vs. June 9, 2016’s 98,000 viewers); “NHL Live” after Game 4 on June 5 was down 33 percent (125,000 viewers vs. June 6, 2016’s 187,000 viewers) and after the series-clinching Game 6 on June 11, although the week’s second-most-watched NBCSN telecast, was down 21 percent (360,000 viewers vs. June 12, 2016’s 459,000 viewers).

  • IndyCar’s Rainguard Water Sealers 600 race from Texas on NBCSN on June 10 posted 561,000 viewers, increases of 76 percent from last year’s rain-delayed race that split the event over two separate dates (June 11 and August 27, 2016: average of 319,000 viewers) and 30 percent from two years prior (431,000 viewers on June 6, 2015). The Texas IndyCar race had been known as the Firestone 600 from 2014-16.

  • NBCSN’s coverage of the 2017 America’s Cup sailing competition during the early afternoons of June 10-11 averaged 215,000 viewers. This was 49 percent above America’s Cup sailing from Chicago on the year-ago weekend (June 11-12, 2016: 145,000 viewers).

  • The Belmont Stakes Prep on NBCSN in the late afternoon of June 10 drew 237,000 viewers, down 19 percent from the year prior (291,000 viewers on June 11, 2016).

  • Like last week, a NASCAR race lead-in greatly boosted a tape-delayed NHRA telecast on FS1. The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Summernationals from Englishtown, N.J. on June 11 in the early evening attracted 1.623 million viewers, significantly up 51 percent from last year’s NHRA Summernationals (June 12, 2016: 1.068 million viewers) that was also aided by a then-NASCAR Sprint Cup race lead-in. It had also aired live on FS1 prior to the NASCAR Monster Cup Series: Pocono on June 11 and had drawn 567,000 viewers.

  • ARCA Racing’s General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 race from the Poconos on FS1 June 9 registered 291,000 viewers, down 18 percent from last year’s race (June 3, 2016: 356,000 viewers).
