It’s a stiff competition for who in sports media disdains New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers most, but Nick Wright tried to reclaim that crown this week after the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and Rodgers denied his involvement in the decision.
Speaking on First Things First the day after Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Saleh, Wright dismantled Rodgers’ claim that despite speaking with Johnson shortly before Saleh was forced out, he had no role in the coach being fired.
To dismantle that claim, Wright ripped through six separate “lies” over the past year and a half — not including three-plus years ago when Rodgers used the word “immunized” to skirt the NFL vaccine mandate and faced intense criticism.
“I’m going to leave out the most notorious lie, because he thinks this lie is the reason everyone dislikes him,” Wright said. “The first one at the press conference when we were all wearing masks, let’s pretend that one didn’t happen.”
Wright’s list of “lies” included Rodgers stating he nearly retired before going to the Jets; Rodgers claiming his bad cell service is why he didn’t speak with the Green Bay Packers before the trade to New York; Rodgers bashing NFL insider Dianna Russini while claiming he played no role in the Jets’ offseason moves; Rodgers talking up dolphin mating sounds as a treatment for his torn Achilles, which he stated he could play on last December; and Rodgers saying he had a good relationship with Saleh last week.

So in this case, Wright refuses to believe that Rodgers heard nothing about the Saleh move and had no hand in it.
“I’m here to tell you I don’t believe you,” Wright said. “Am I saying you told him to fire him or whatever it is? No. What I am here to tell you is, you lie to me nine times in 18 months, I’m not going to believe the 10th.”
Of course, Wright is exaggerating here. He only listed six lies, not nine.
But considering Wright previously called Rodgers “the most disingenuous athlete of my lifetime,” it’s no surprise he would take this opportunity to bash the three-time MVP quarterback once again.
