Someone over at Fox Sports got their teams confused. With the World Baseball Classic final between the U.S. and Puerto Rico about to start Wednesday night, the @MLBONFOX account tweeted that it all comes down to this: the U.S. and…Japan?
Of course, the U.S. beat Japan last night to advance to the final. The MLB on Fox account quickly deleted the tweet, but not before getting a bunch of replies:
@MLBONFOX @WBCBaseball @USABaseball um, isn't Puerto Rico ?? in this game?

@MLBONFOX @WBCBaseball @USABaseball Steve Harvey is this you?

@MLBONFOX Lol I wish

@MLBONFOX @WBCBaseball @USABaseball if you have an opening in your social media department tomorrow let me know and I'll send over a resume.

@MLBONFOX Nice try…remove Japan and insert Puerto Rico #wbc2017
— Seth Marsh (@Ball_Hard01) March 23, 2017
The account then followed that advice, deleting the old tweet about Japan and sending the exact same tweet with Puerto Rico:
It all comes down to this! USA vs Puerto Rico for the #WBC2017 title!
WHO YA GOT?! ?? ?? pic.twitter.com/yuFt0q1NGY
— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) March 23, 2017
Which got them limited internet kudos:
@MLBONFOX there ya go
— Jordan Trudeau (@Jordino404) March 23, 2017
But, this all could have been avoided if they’d only read their own account’s tweet from last night:
TO THE SHIP!
USA defeats Japan 2-1 to advance to the #WBC2017 CHAMPIONSHIP! ????????????????????
— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) March 22, 2017
Mistakes happen, of course, but this is a pretty embarrassing one.
