Jimmy Johnson on Fox NFL Sunday Credit: Fox NFL Sunday

Fox NFL Sunday analyst Jimmy Johnson has certainly had bright moments of analysis throughout over two decades working on Fox’s NFL pregame show.

Sunday was not necessarily one of those times.

During a picks segment where Johnson was tasked with breaking down the afternoon’s Miami Dolphins-New York Jets game, the longtime studio analyst began highlighting Miami’s well-documented struggles in cold weather.

“Dolphins have a tough time playing in cold weather,” Johnson stated. “Backup quarterback. I’m picking the Dolphins in an upset.”

If you watched that and had to do a double take, you’re not alone. Johnson gave two pretty convincing reasons why the Dolphins would lose the game, but then went ahead and picked them anyway. That was either the hedge of the century, or Johnson simply forgot he should probably list some reasons Miami would win if he was going to pick them.

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time this season the Fox NFL Sunday crew has had a blunder featuring the Dolphins’ cold weather woes. Earlier this season, Johnson’s colleague Terry Bradshaw boldly claimed, “Weather doesn’t bother [Dolphins quarterback] Tua [Tagovailoa],” before Fox aired a graphic showing Tagovailoa was just 1-7 in cold weather games.

It’s not clear if Jimmy Johnson was making a similar mistake, but the way he discussed Miami’s chances definitely led to some confusion after he decided to pick them in today’s game.
