Longtime FS1 host Jason McIntyre recently signed a new deal that will see him anchor The Herd for another three years, a source familiar with the situation told Awful Announcing.
The deal will bring his run at the network past a decade by its end. McIntyre’s new contract aligns directly with that of Colin Cowherd, who re-upped with FS1 earlier this year after entertaining talks with ESPN.
Jason McIntyre was one of the earliest hires after the launch of FS1, and has worked alongside Cowherd on The Herd since 2022. As part of Cowherd’s new contract, he will primarily host The Herd from his new home in Chicago. Work is underway on an expansion of the Big Ten Network studios in the Windy City, which will allow the star talent to more comfortably broadcast the TV and radio show he has built into FS1’s flagship.
However, a source told Awful Announcing that plans are in the works for Cowherd to return periodically to Los Angeles during football season for recurring interviews with Fox Sports talent like Mark Sanchez and Joel Klatt. Likewise, there are plans for McIntyre to also travel periodically to Chicago to broadcast in-person alongside Cowherd.
Furthermore, McIntyre’s new FS1 contract is exclusively for television work according to the source. McIntyre also hosts the Straight Fire podcast for iHeartMedia. In these negotiations with Fox, he retained rights to his digital work. When reached by Awful Announcing regarding McIntyre’s new deal, a spokesperson for Fox Sports declined comment.
Jason McIntyre is the third anchor to work on The Herd at FS1, following Kristine Leahy and Joy Taylor. Prior to joining FS1 in 2016, McIntyre founded and sold The Big Lead, a pioneering sports media and culture blog. He has also worked at Us Weekly and Yahoo Sports, among several other outlets.
Last month, FS1 canceled three shows in the latest of many shuffles of its daytime lineup. For the upcoming football season, The Herd will be preceded by a new co-production with Barstool Sports also airing from Chicago. The afternoon will feature an expanded, three-hour edition of First Things First on FS1.
