Despite recently winning an Emmy for the best event analyst, Fox has opted to demote former lead broadcaster Greg Olsen from the network’s top broadcast team for the upcoming 2024-25 season in favor of Tom Brady. And naturally, Olsen isn’t all that thrilled about this decision, speaking his mind on the matter on Thursday during a guest appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.
Thus far in Olsen’s broadcasting career, he has been the perfect example for former players, like Brady who have media aspirations, to follow. While he obviously isn’t as big of a name as Brady, he has made his name well-known very early on in the sports media landscape.
On the Rich Eisen Show, Olsen talked about his aspirations as a broadcaster moving forward, stating that he still wants to call the biggest games and one day hopefully reclaim his role on Fox’s top broadcast team.
“My aspirations are even more clear. I want to call top games. I want to call Super Bowls. I want to call a game where the entire country tunes in,” said Olsen. “I understand the situation that I’m in. I’m not going to sit here and say I’m thrilled and I’m doing jumping jacks over it, but, I’m a grown man. I understand what I signed up for. I understand the world that we live in, and some things don’t necessarily go your way. But I’m confident that if I can just keep doing what I’ve been doing… can I get back there one day? Absolutely.”
Olsen will now serve on Fox’s No. 2 broadcast team alongside play-by-play voice Joe Davis, who he has previously worked with when Kevin Burkhardt was out for Fox MLB postseason hosting responsibilities.
Obviously, only time will tell whether Tom Brady’s broadcasting venture ends up being a success. But if things do go south, it sure seems like Greg Olsen will be waiting in the wings to earn his spot back on the top broadcast team at Fox.
