From a battle with cancer to a high-profile, ugly legal battle and challenges having children, Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews has been through a lot during her successful sports broadcasting career.
In the latest episode of her podcast, Calm Down, Andrews opened up on another challenge that came her way this spring. Since the NFL season ended, Andrews and her husband, former NHL player Jarret Stoll, were trying to have a second child with a surrogate through IVF. In a recent episode of the show, Andrews felt confident enough with the process to discuss it with the audience.
However, this week, Andrews revealed that the surrogate had suffered a miscarriage. This is the second time a surrogate for Andrews and Stoll has lost a child.
“I’ve realized throughout my life with everything I’ve gone through and adversity, sometimes this is such a great safe space,” Andrews said. “We got some real sh*tty news today that our surrogate had miscarried. I have dealt with this before, but things were going really, really well. And her little heartbeat and her numbers were really, really good … we thought we had such good news.”

In 2023, Andrews and Stoll welcomed their first child, a son named Mack.
Andrews continues to share the details of her journey with surrogacy in an effort to connect with other women struggling with infertility and people in the audience who have responded to her past stories.
“I kind of made a promise to myself that when I was really open with how sh*tty infertility has been and our journeys with two surrogates … I was just going to be honest with people,” Andrews said. “People, you have no idea what they’re dealing with. I know my husband’s having a difficult time. I’m gonna go home and be with him, and then we’re gonna throw our little 2-year-old in the pool, and I feel like squeezes are going to feel a little different from him today.”
Andrews underwent two surgeries to treat cervical cancer in 2017, and it took nine years of different efforts to welcome Mack. As the couple continues to build a family, the latest miscarriage is a sad setback for Andrews, Stoll, and their surrogate.
