On Monday, a number of sports talk shows made it a point to touch on Alabama’s victory over Georgia on Saturday, the first signature win for Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer as head coach of the Crimson Tide. But when it came time for Colin Cowherd to discuss DeBoer, he wasn’t exactly entirely correct about his past.

Each Monday on The Herd, Cowherd hosts a segment called “Where Colin was right and wrong”, where he recaps some topics of games over the weekend around both college and professional football that he either correctly predicted or got wrong.

One of the things Cowherd did accurately predict was that Alabama would defeat Georgia over the weekend, praising DeBoer for his ability as a coach while recapping his correct prediction on Monday.

“I thought Bama would beat Georgia,” said Cowherd. “Carson Beck, good luck, but after watching Shedeur Sanders, you’re not going number one. I’ll say this, Kalen DeBoer did this at Washington. He got the Huskies to a National Championship without a lot of NFL bodies. His ability to… He’s not a great recruiter. But he may develop offensive players as well as anybody I have ever seen.”

DeBoer has shown to be an excellent coach at Alabama thus far into his tenure. But Cowherd did get one specific thing wrong in terms of the talent that he had on his roster at Washington last season when they made the National Championship.

Cowherd’s claim that Washington didn’t “have NFL bodies” last season when they made the National Championship simply isn’t true… In fact, ten players from that roster were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, which only trailed Michigan and Texas for the most from any school.

Ironically, there were also ten players from the Alabama Crimson Tide roster last season under Nick Saban who ended up getting drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. So technically, Alabama and Washington had the exact same amount of NFL talent last season.

Obviously, when you look at things objectively, Alabama is a program that will have more NFL talent than Washington in most years. You can even argue that the reason Washington had so many players get drafted was due to the coaching of DeBoer and his staff at Washington, which further proves Cowherd’s point about his coaching ability.

But regardless, to act like DeBoer had all of his success at Washington with very little NFL talent last year simply isn’t the case, whether Cowherd believes it or not.
