After an illness forced him to exit The Herd on Monday abruptly, Colin Cowherd is expected to return on Thursday in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX coverage.

Jason McIntyre unexpectedly assumed the reins of The Herd on Monday, and he was back in the power chair for Tuesday’s show. He informed the audience that Cowherd was doing better but not quite well enough to make a triumphant return less than 24 hours after going home sick. However, McIntyre noted that Cowherd plans to return for their Thursday show in New Orleans.

“Colin out sick, but he is back Thursday at the Super Bowl, we will be live from New Orleans,” McIntyre said. “He tells me he’s going to treat me to all these expensive meals down there. I’m like, ‘Dude, I don’t know if I want to sit next to you if you’re sick.’ But he says he’s fine, he’s gonna be ok.”

During Monday’s show open on FS1 and Fox Sports Radio, Cowherd appeared exhausted before eventually having to forego breaking down the Luka Dončić-Anthony Davis trade any longer.

“Folks, I’m gonna take a break,” Cowherd announced. “I am getting very, very sick, very, very quickly on this set. And we will return.”

The Herd’s social media account quickly put out a statement to say Cowherd was “doing ok.” And Cowherd later posted a message thanking everyone for their concern, adding that he will be fine.

After telling everyone Cowherd was continuing to feel better on Tuesday, McIntyre noted that another member of the staff was forced to go home sick. So, whatever Cowherd is dealing with appears to be going around, reinforcing the importance of not rushing back too soon, especially with their Super Bowl LIX spectacle from New Orleans looming.

With Fox hosting the Super Bowl this NFL season, Cowherd’s shows from New Orleans will have added importance for the network, especially with the longtime radio host being a steadying presence amid the recent sexual assault lawsuits to hit FS1. Cowherd was not named in those lawsuits. Considering the importance of Cowherd’s presence in New Orleans, it’s probably best not to rush his return while the show is still in Los Angeles.
