Colin Cowherd is never shy about throwing out wild trade proposals, but his latest might be his most absurd yet.

The Fox Sports host floated a scenario in which the New York Giants trade the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft for 37-year-old Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, bringing in 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers as a short-term replacement.

Cowherd cited NFL insider Albert Breer, who mentioned the Giants as a possible landing spot for Stafford. However, Breer’s analysis did not consider the idea of New York giving up a top-three pick. That detail came straight from Cowherd, who claimed he spoke with a “longtime NFL exec” who didn’t dismiss the possibility.

“So, there is a quote this morning in an Albert Breer story,” Cowherd said. The big domino in this year’s quarterback market is Matt Stafford. So, I am going to propose something — I am just proposing it. I made a couple of calls yesterday and a couple of texts this morning; I’m gonna propose something. Yesterday, I was talking to a longtime NFL exec. and he said, ‘This is not crazy.'”

“The Rams like Matt Stafford, but they are tiring of the constant quarterback talk, his wife saying things publically, they’re not real happy with Cooper Kupp going public with something they tried to keep quiet,” Cowherd continued. “They are kinda of Cooper Kupp and, with that, a little bit Matt Stafford. They like him, but they don’t want to restructure his deal and give him a big contract.”

Meanwhile, according to Cowherd, the New York football Giants do not like the quarterback class.

“Brian Daboll, the head coach, and Joe Schoen, the GM, have got to win, or they’ll be fired by Thanksgiving,” said Cowherd. They gonna get run out of the building because if they don’t have a quarterback, Washington is big-time now. Philadelphia will steamroll ’em. The Packers, the Bears, the Rams — the NFC’s getting better — and the Giants have some good players. So, they are going to make a move, I believe, on Matt Stafford…

“What the Rams want, I’m told, they want the Giants’ first-round pick at No. 3… They’ll probably get a first and a fourth, but let’s just talk about that No. 3 pick. The Rams want that No. 3 pick in the draft because they’re drafting way later. They want to take that pick, move down, and get more picks. Why? So they have extra picks for next year when they have to move up to get a quarterback.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said, “There is no way in hell that the Giants are giving up the third overall pick for Matthew Stafford.”

But let’s hear Cowherd out.

This prompted Cowherd to suggest a second part of his trade proposal: the Rams would acquire Aaron Rodgers as a potential one-year rental if they decide to trade Stafford.

“What the Rams will be in the market for, if Matt Stafford moves, is a one to two-year rental at quarterback — Aaron Rodgers,” he exclaimed. “Hear me out: Aaron needs a rehab. The Packers got better without him. His image? Big advertisers are not interested. [The] Jets was a mess. He needs a rehab. He has a house in Malibuu, West Coast guy. By the way, in a division with Geno Smith, Kyler Murray, Brock Purdy.

“Aaron Rodgers, [in the] last ten games last year, he was good. And remember, that was with a third-tier coaching staff. Now he gets (Sean) McVay, an established o-line, an excellent young defense? Remember, Matt LaFleur’s brother (Mike) is the OC with Sean McVay. Well, he’s been in that system before, so Aaron knows the system with the Rams. I believe Aaron is craving infrastructure, stability, a head coach he respects, organizational excellence.”

Matthew Stafford to the Giants. Aaron Rodgers to the Rams. Hear @ColinCowherd out…

Cowherd’s trade proposal is filled with flaws, but the most outlandish piece is the idea that the Giants would give up the No. 3 overall pick for a 37-year-old quarterback. Unless New York is convinced it’s a Super Bowl contender right now, mortgaging its future for Stafford would be a reckless gamble.

Then there’s the Rams’ side of things. If they’re so eager to move on from Stafford, why would they pivot to Rodgers, a 41-year-old coming off a torn Achilles with even more durability concerns? That’s not a reset — it’s just swapping one aging quarterback for another.

So, even if Stafford gets dealt, it’s hard to imagine it happening under anything close to the terms he suggests.
