It’s become a popular trend for sports media personalities to bash the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Seen as Super Bowl contenders in the preseason, the Jets are now 2-6, and their season is circling the drain. Rodgers’ mediocre play has been a major factor. Just this week, Get Up analyst Damien Woody proclaimed the “Aaron Rodgers era is over,” while noted Jets fan Mike Greenberg said on his ESPN Radio show that Rodgers is “a shell of his former self.”
Just when it seemed Rodgers couldn’t get any love from sports media, Colin Cowherd compared him to a family member. Unfortunately for Rodgers, Cowherd compared him to a family member most people go out of their way to avoid at holiday time.
“He’s become your crazy uncle who shows up at Thanksgiving and always has a new concoction or business idea,” Cowherd said Wednesday on FS1’s TheHerd with Colin Cowherd.

Cowherd made the comments in response to Rodgers’ revelation this week he has started drinking a concoction of cayenne pepper and water as part of his fitness regimen.
Rodgers is no stranger to unusual health and fitness practices, from his “I’ve been immunized” comments surrounding the Covid vaccine to his talk about ayahuasca tea to his darkness retreat for meditation. It all sounds very mystical, but then again, Rodgers is almost 41 and still playing in a league where the average career runs just over three years.
Cowherd broke down the Jets’ season into four stages: He says Rodgers helped get head coach Robert Saleh fired because “he was the problem.” Then, the Jets demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Then, they brought in Rodgers’ old Green Bay Packers teammate, Davante Adams.
“And now they’ve pivoted to cayenne pepper water. That is the four stages of football grief,” Cowherd joked. “If they lose tomorrow night, he might do an in-season darkness retreat. That is where we are at with Aaron Rodgers.”
The Jets host the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football.
“All joking aside, you know what this New York Jets team looks like?” Cowherd asked. “A company without a plan. … This is what bad teams, bad businesses do.”
