While the New York Jets had plenty of chances, they were ultimately on the wrong end of a 23-20 final score in Week 6’s Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills.
Following the game, Troy Aikman, who called the game with Joe Buck on ESPN, painted a rather bleak picture of New York’s outlook going forward.
Aikman and Buck did their weekly postgame interview on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt. Buck, referencing the changes the Jets have made, most notably firing coach Robert Saleh.
“The Jets now have lost three and row. And they’re gonna talk about it’s a long season, and it is. But after all these changes, it’s kinda the same frustrating result for the New York Jets,” Buck said.
Aikman followed. He spoke about the Bills, praising their “good situation” before turning his attention to the Jets.

“I don’t know where they go from here, quite honestly, Scott. Because this week, with all the changes and then you do, you have some momentum coming in. You start to do some things better than what you had done them. And we see that from time to time when an interim coach takes over and how a team might respond to that. But to lose the game the way they did, with the penalties, the missed field goals and not capitalizing in the red zone. All those things. I just think it’s going to be really hard on them. Short week now. I could see this totally unraveling. Maybe that won’t happen.
“I know the players won’t agree with that. But I could see it happening. Because I think they put so much into this week to winning a game and getting back on track. The owner says this is the best team he’s had in 25 years. All those things. But they didn’t get it done. So they’re right back where they were. And now what’s the answer for them? They don’t have it.”
A win on Monday would have moved the Jets to 3-3 which, with the tiebreaker, would have put them in first place in the AFC East. With the loss, New York is 2-4 and sits in third place in the division. Another prime-time game awaits the Jets, who will go on the road to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
