Stephen A. Smith vs. Jason Whitlock may not be confined to a war of words, with a boxing ring possibly looming to settle their feud.
During Smith’s Friday afternoon SiriusXM show on Mad Dog Sports Radio, a listener teased the brash host by asking who he would like to get in the boxing ring with for a charity event. And initially, Smith thought better of stating his answer over the airwaves.
“I wouldn’t get into the boxing ring for a charity exhibition…I’m rolling up in there to hurt somebody…it would be for people that I don’t like. And it ain’t hard to figure out who some of those people are” – Stephen A. Smith pic.twitter.com/3gjMVzvdil

“I will never tell you that,” Smith quickly answered. “I’m not gonna go there, cause I’m not gonna make that kind of news. But there’s a couple of people I can’t stand.”
Smith went on to note that he has allowed the infamous video of him boxing to remain on the internet for the last six years or so. And despite the unflattering boxing prowess displayed in the aforementioned video, Smith claims he wants it to live on, because he wants his potential opponents to believe that’s how he really fights.
“Go ahead, knock yourself out. Think that’s how I roll. Please. I don’t worry about it,” Smith insisted. “Let them go ahead and humiliate me, cause I can assure you I don’t box like that.”
And after promising not to reveal who he wanted to box, Smith became a bit more candid while trying to hype his skills as a fighter.
“I will tell you this, I don’t wanna do something like that because I wouldn’t get into the boxing ring for a charity exhibition event just trying to have fun,” Smith said. “I get in the boxing ring ready to throw hands, I’m rolling up in there to hurt somebody. Because I know they’re gonna try to hurt me, but I’m not playing, if I did it like that, it would be for people that I don’t like. And it ain’t hard to figure out who some of those people are. And I’ll leave it at that.”
There are a couple of names that immediately come to mind, one being LeBron James. But Stephen A. Smith isn’t boxing LeBron James. Although after their viral courtside interaction at a Lakers game last season, Smith did claim he “would have immediately swung on him” if James got physical first. But Smith has since softened his stance on James.
As big as Smith’s ego might be, even he has to know getting in the ring with one of the best athletes in history would be a bad idea. But Smith’s discernment might not stop him from wanting to fight a foe who is a less imposing physical figure than LeBron James, which is where Jason Whitlock enters the ring.
There seems to be no person Smith loathes more than Whitlock right now. Every time Whitlock mentions his name, Smith can’t keep himself from entering the fray. And with Smith frequently taking shots at Whitlock’s weight while boasting about the shape he’s in, it seems like he’d be willing to prove his superior physicality in the boxing ring.
