It’s not going to be Donald Trump, but College GameDay will at least feature one major celebrity appearance. And we’re not talking about guest picker Johnny Knoxville. We’re talking about Peyton Manning.
With GameDay traveling to Knoxville for the showdown between the top-ranked Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers, it’s only natural for Peyton to show up. Not only is he one of the most beloved players to ever put on a Volunteers uniform, he also happens to be the uncle of the team they will be hosting on Saturday with Arch Manning and company coming to town.
According to ESPN, Manning will make his appearance during Pat McAfee’s kicking contest. That’s probably better than having the legendary quarterback to be the guest picker and having to choose between his alma mater and his nephew.

Celebrities showing up for the kicking contest is not necessarily a new phenomenon. When College GameDay was at Texas earlier this season for their Week 2 game against Ohio State, famed Longhorn fan Matthew McConaughey was there.
The contest is perhaps becoming too easy with the number of people we’ve seen put the ball through the uprights and win the grand prize. After a number of successes last year, we have already seen two successful kicks this year and we’re not even out of September yet. So if it’s not enough pressure to potentially win a million dollars, then you might as well do it in front of some of the most famous people who ever lived.
Thankfully, we won’t have to worry about Peyton Manning getting into politics or stumping for the Protect College Sports Act with Ted Cruz. And if Donald Trump can stay away from the telecast so we can focus on football and fun, then that would be a great thing too.
