Kirk Herbstreit and Peter Credit: Kirk Herbstreit

The recent loss of Ben Herbstreit, Kirk Herbstreit’s beloved compansion during football season, seemed like it was going to be too much for him and many college football fans to move forward.

Ben’s younger brother Peter is doing everything he can to prove he’s up to the challenge of helping.

A little over a week after Herbstreit’s pet and emotional support animal passed away, the younger and more excitable Peter started accompanying Kirk to College GameDay and all of the games he was calling for ESPN and Prime Video. Whereas Ben was lowkey and chill, Peter was more than happy to insert himself into the action and be the center of attention.

Kirk had a full schedule this Saturday, with College GameDay in Atlanta followed by calling the SEC Championship Game between Texas and Georgia. Sure enough, Peter was there every step of the way, starting with GameDay where he got to meet Timothée Chalamet.

He then stole the spotlight before the SEC title game. Even though Bevo couldn’t be there, Peter gave fans (and even players) a live mascot to appreciate.

Big day for Peter.
