Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson pulled himself early Sunday in the third quarter against the Houston Texans.

Pat McAfee had an instant reaction.

“I had never seen an NFL QB tap out while still being healthy until watching Anthony Richardson,” McAfee wrote on Twitter/X Sunday. “The QB is your franchise. The message it sends is loud and influential.”

Richardson tapped his helmet, signaling he needed to be replaced, after he fell on a sack by linebacker Jake Hansen. CBS reported Richardson was out of breath and he was indeed not injured.

He left for one play and was replaced by Joe Flacco.

The fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, Richardson was taken by the Colts to be the future in the pocket. His ability to throw in many angles and athleticism were some of the characteristics they were noted to like.

Back in August during a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Kirk Herbstreit discussed Richardson and veteran play caller and backup, Flacco. Two completely different guys, especially because you know what you’re getting with Flacco.

“I just wonder how you handle that if it goes down that path if you’re [head coach] Shane Steichen,” Herbstreit said.

“You’re hoping to see Anthony Richardson be this guy that can run this offense that Jalen Hurts ran two years ago in Philly.”
